Hao Nguyen, Deacon

Deacon Hao was born in Saigon, Vietnam. He fled Vietnam with my sister’s family in April of 1975 to settle in Seattle, Washington, and is the second youngest of seven siblings.

In 1986, he moved to beautiful sunny Southern California to work for McDonnell Douglas Aerospace Company as an Electrical System Engineer and received degrees of Master of Business Administration (MBA) at University of Phoenix in 1996 and Master of Art in Pastoral Theology (MA) at Loyola Marymount University in 2012 as well as his certification as Certified Spiritual Direction at Loyola Institute for Spirituality in Orange, California, in 2016.

Deacon Hao is married to his lovely wife, Teresa Lieu Truong, and has two sons, Kevin and Kristopher, and two grandsons, Landon and Matthew. In his own words

"I apply my parent’s teaching that home is an ideal one to grow up in, full of love and faith. My family and I converted to the Catholic Church in 1988 to become children of God. I was ordained as Permanent Deacon in 2009 at the Diocese of Orange. As a person I have been, and continue to be engaged in spiritual formation, usually with assistance from a spiritual director, pursuing a study of scripture and theology.

I am a highly committed servant leader who enjoys building and maintaining meaningful, Christ-centered relationships. I am compassionate and dedicated to helping others succeed. I am a practical and logical thinker with thorough attention to detail. I am a self-starter, dependable, organized, and efficient. My other ministries include: provided mental health counseling for parishioners; providing spiritual direction for parishioners and patients at care facilities; and compassionate ministering of justice and service in young people who are developing a social consciousness and a commitment to a life of Justice and service rooted in their faith in Jesus Christ, in the Scriptures, and in Catholic social teaching.
